Assembled in Baltimore, Maryland and shipped to Jack Maxton Chevrolet in Worthington, Ohio, this awesome LS5 Chevelle convertible is the beneficiary of a recent nut and bolt rotisserie restoration during which no expense was spared to restore every square inch of its sculpted metal to better-than-new condition. Today, this top notch Chevelle is as a spectacular muscle car which combines the best aspects of big block Chevrolet performance with the gratuitous fun and old school style that only a classic drop top can provide.
Rolling out of the factory with an impressive 360 horsepower and a massive 500 lb./ft. of torque, this Chevelle's original 454 cubic inch LS5 V8 wears a correct 3963512 casting number, a March ( C ) 27th (27) of 1970 (0) casting date, a correct "CRT" suffix stamp and a correct 194056 partial VIN. At the top of that big engine, air is forced through a completely functional cowl induction system into a correctly detailed single snorkel air cleaner which rides on a correct Quadrajet 4-barrel carburetor and a correct 3955287 intake manifold. At the sides of that intake, mirror-like valve covers loom correct Packard TV R Suppression wires above correct 3964290 heads and fully restored exhaust manifolds. And at the back of that intake, a correct points distributor rides beside a fresh wiper motor and a correct Delco Moraine brake booster. Cooling is supplied by a correct radiator which sends water past a correctly shrouded seven blade fan to a correct 3931065 water pump via reproduction GM hoses that are complete with a full set of correct tower clamps. And spark is supplied by a reproduction Delco battery which is wired to a correct 61 amp heavy duty alternator that spins between a correct Frigidaire air compressor and correct Harrison air conditioning components.
Behind the stout big block, an original M22 'Rock Crusher' 4-speed, which wears a correct 3925661 casting number, a P0D21C date stamp that decodes as a Muncie (P) M22 ( C ) built on April (D) 21st (21) of 1970 (0), and a correct 194056 partial VIN, sends power to a familiar "CRV" branded 12 bolt Posi-traction rear end that's equipped with easy driving 3.31 gears. Holding that killer drivetrain off the ground is a completely restored F41 heavy duty performance suspension that is equipped with thicker coils, heavy duty shocks, a larger diameter front sway bar, a standard rear sway bar, boxed lower rear control arms and upper cross braces. At the center of the car, the cars restored manifolds dump spent gases into a mandrel bent true dual exhaust system which is complete with factory replacement mufflers and correct rear mounted resonators. And at the corners of the car, correctly painted 14 inch Super Sport wheels spin vintage looking F70-14 Firestone Wide Oval tires around correct "SS" branded center caps.
The correct GM code 756 black vinyl in this Chevelle drop top looks absolutely fantastic wrapped in its bright silver panels. The correct front bucket and rear bench seats were rebuilt with fresh foam and new seat covers, show no virtually wear at all, and blend seamlessly with the car's new black carpet and fresh rubber floor mats. At the front of the car, a traditional black Super Sport dash hangs a trio of rebuilt gauges next to a correct Delco AM/FM radio, a button for the car's power top and controls for a factory correct C60 air conditioning system. Between the seats, a great looking console frames a chrome Muncie floor shifter, that's complete with a black cue ball knob, in pristine stainless trim. And in front of the driver, a satin finished GM Rally wheel spins a cushioned rim around a traditional red, white and blue Chevrolet horn button that's cinched to a correct tilt steering column.
