  • Description: A-Lad-In His Lamp is a 1948 Warner Bros. Looney Tunes cartoon starring Bugs Bunny and featuring the Genie and Caliph Hassan Pfeiffer who is after Bugs and the Genie in his lamp. The voice of Bugs Bunny and Caliph Hassan Pfeiffer is voiced by Mel Blanc and the voice of the Smokey the Genie is played by Jim Backus in one of his first professional roles. The cartoon is a takeoff of the story of Aladdin's Lamp.

    PLOT
    Bugs is digging a rabbit hole when he finds Aladdin's Lamp in his hole not knowing what it is at first and calls it junk. He thinks he could use it as an ashtray and starts cleaning it up and out pops Smokey (as Bugs calls him) the Genie and announces that he is here and let the bells ring out and feast his eyes on him ("I'm here! I'm here! Let the bells ring out and the banners fly! Feast your eyes on me! It's too good to be true, but I'm here! I'm here!"). Bugs, suspicious of Smokey at first, asks what he wants ("Why, I'm a genie. I live in that lamp. They call me 'Genie with the light brown hair'. Oh, that was a witty one!"). Smokey wants to grant Bugs any wish he wants ("My little, buck-tooth pal, I'll grant you a wish. Anything you want. I got millions".), but when Bugs tries to give a wish, the Genie makes a bunch of excuses ("Oh, no no, they're much too small.", "Oh no, they're too delicate. Too sahns-a-tave!", "Oh, Heavens to Gimbles, no!"). Then, not wanting any of this, he angrily wishes for a carrot ("Now cut that out! That's enough of that stuff! I got a wish coming and I wish for a carrot!"). Bugs opens the lamp lid & tells Smokey to make it two carrots (to see if he is for real; "Poisonally, I think the guy's a phony. But just in case... Hey Smokey, as long as you're down there, make that two carrots!"). Smokey gives him two carrots & Bugs is pleased.
    Smokey wants to go back to Baghdad where he lives ("But I'm going back to my fabulous estate in Baghdad. First class, of course.") and he wants to take Bugs along, so Bugs accepts ("Baghdad? Hmm... I wish I could go to Baghdad...") and he and the Genie in the lamp fly literally with Bugs flying like an "hareplane" as he calls it ("Hey, look fellas, I'm a hare-plane!").
