Charlie Nalts and I went to the famous Carlo's Bakery in Hoboken, NJ today. Charlie got to meet Buddy Valastro, also known as "The Cake Boss." My sisters got us hooked on the TLC show, and Jo (wifeofnalts) asked for a cake for her birthday today (March 19).

So Charlie and I drive a few hours this afternoon, and the family and friends were kind enough to give us a little tour with just one-hour notice. If you don't watch the show you probably won't appreciate this as much... the family and staff are total characters, and the sisters are much nicer than portrayed on TV. Mama Valastro was a hoot, and Buddy took Charlie's order for a fish cake (his birthday is in April).

I'd like to include footage of the TLC shoot in the kitchen, but I don't want to spoil the surprise cake he's making for a party in a few days. It's BEAUTIFUL! Plus it might get TLC upset if I spoil it, and I think the show returns this summer.
