  • Description: "My clients, hog producers, know it's important to raise these pigs with animal welfare and well-being in mind not only because it's the right thing to do for the pig but it also protects their livelihood," Dr. Angie Supple told our Vets On Call producers. After doing her undergraduate work at Notre Dame, she received her DVM from Purdue University. She continues, "The Pork Quality Assurance Program is our program that every producer has to go through to produce pigs for the food chain."

    Dr. Supple works in a swine exclusive veterinary practice in Iowa -- their specialty is pigs. Their practice consults on pig herd health for a variety of clients from small to large farms.

Dr. Supple is committed to not only supporting the economic health of the swine industry but also their larger overall responsibility to the public in maintaining food safety.

    

"My role is really to ensure that my producers produce food for human consumption in a healthy and safe way," Supple says. "At the end of the day, it's important for the consumer to know that this was raised humanely and safely."
