    The song was uploaded to Sophie Ellis-Bextor's official MySpace page on June 2, 2008. It was announced on February 22, 2009 that "Heartbreak (Make Me A Dancer)" would be released as the Freemasons' new single.
    The song was premiered on BBC Radio 1's The Scott Mills Show on April 24, 2009. The song has been added to its B List in June 17. Freemasons promoted the single in the United States, as they did on May 2, 2009 at the Town Club in Washington DC.

    The single has been added to the A-list on Galaxy FM, the A-list on Kiss and BBC Radio 1 B-list. Also, it has reached #1 on the Cool Cuts Chart. The single also reached #1 on the MTV Dance Chart, becoming a smash hit, where it's sitting at the top position for thirteen consecutive weeks. The single peaked at #9 on the MTV TMF UK Chart. Also, "Heartbreak (Make Me A Dancer)" has hit the Number 1 Spot of the Gaydar Radio Top 20.

    The single reached #2 on the UK Dance Chart, as well #2 on the UK Indie Chart on the issue of July 3 2009.
    The song was Popjustice's "Song of the Day" on March 11, 2009.
    The song has been nominated for "Best Single of 2009" on the first ever "Download Music Awards".

    The song was premiered on BBC Radio 1's show The Scott Mills Show, and since, it has been added to many radio playlists. Freemasons have been promoting the song in the UK at XXL, and in the United States at the Town Club, in Washington DC.

    Ellis-Bextor performed for the first time on TV on the National Lottery Show on 20 May. She performed at G-A-Y on June 20, 2009, and at GMTV on June 16, 2009.

    The music video was directed by Chris Sweeney and filmed on 21 April 2009. The video was released May 8 and it features Ellis-Bextor dancing and singing the song in a futuristic setting surrounded by dancers and special effects. The video version of the song differs from the original edit; the breaks between verses are shorter, and the bridge towards the end of the song is quicker and is mixed differently.
