I remember hearing this track in the summer of 1966 on the then-underground, new FM station in NYC, WOR-FM (there were no FM stations running at the time, except one classical station WQXR). There were no DJs, just continuous 24/7 new music, like nothing that was playing on the Top-40 stations like WABC-AM. They played it two times that I caught, and I was in love - with the harmonies, the melody, the whole thing.
I ran down to that small underground record shop in the village, where they told me that they'd heard it, knew the title and the label, that it was new, and probably not going to be available for some reason I don't recall.
Well, being as it *was* New York City, and London Records had an office uptown, I simply went up there during work hours. Things were a lot looser back then, and the secretary at the main desk found my enthusiasm and interest inspiring, called in another worker, who promptly took me 'in the back' to where they stored records, found this promo copy and handed it to me. That was it, and now, this is it, for you all.
I never heard it on the station again, nor for that matter, anywhere again except on my turntable when I played it. It's a fascinating track, very unusual, and it was written and performed by one "Giorgio". Turns out 13 years-plus later, Giorgio is actually THE Giorgio Moroder (as it's stated on the label), the triple Grammy-winning writer and producer of movie soundtracks and many innovative dance-music tracks throughout the 70's and 80's.
This song appeared on a limited-run Best Of Giorgio Moroder 4-CD set some years ago. You can often find the set at the usual internet selling and auction sites.
