    Release and reception:

    "21 Guns" was released May 25, 2009 to modern rock radio stations, although it had already been played on some radio stations such as KROQ in Los Angeles. The actual single will be released on June 17. "21 Guns" is on the upcoming soundtrack of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, which will be released on June 23. At the pre-release preview of 21st Century Breakdown, the MTV News reviewer called this song, "a cell-phones-in-the-air anthem"

    Billie Joe Armstrong told Q magazine, "It brings up 21st Century Breakdown in a lot of ways, and the 21 gun-salute for someone that's fallen, but done in an arena rock 'n' roll sort of way.
