  • Description: This is a Tutorial about how to setup a T-Mobile G1 application called BARTOR (it used to be called Torrent Scanner) to work in sync with a desktop program called uTorrent.

    It's a pretty amazing achievement, and a pretty amazing application.
    The guys over at nEx.Software did a great job explaining what and how to do it and I used their
    guidelines to shoot this tutorial.

    Here are basic instructions for setting up with uTorrent.

    In uTorrent, go to the Options menu, then select Preferences.
    On the left side of the Preferences window find and click Web UI.
    In the resulting page, ensure that Enable Web UI is checked, then choose a Username and Password. Choose an alternate listening port (make sure you also open the port on your firewall) - use the default port used by uTorrent (this is located on the Connections page of the Preferences).

    MAKE NOTE OF THE Username, Password, and Port.

    Determine the IP address of your computer:
    If you are on the same WiFi network this will be the private IP as assigned by your Router (usually in the form of 192.168.0.1, or similar).
    If you are not on the same WiFi network, you will use the public IP address (this can be found by visiting with your computers browser).

    To ensure that the Web UI is functioning, using your computer's browser, go to:
    IN THE EXAMPLE GIVEN IN THE VIDEO IT WOULD BE:

    If it asks you for a user name and password - You did a good job. CLOSE THE WINDOW AND DO NOT
    ENTER ANYTHING IN THERE.

    On your G1 Android phone, Open BarTor, push Menu, then click Settings.
    Go to the "Client Sites" tab, then click "Add" and enter the appropriate IP Address, Port Number, Username and Password. uTorrent is the default Client. Click OK.
    The newly added Client Site will show in the list. Click it to activate it.

    You should now be able to scan or enter manually the product you wish to download, then hit Submit Search. This will lookup the product on isoHunt. Select the product you wish to download then click Submit To Client.

    TIP: try to choose an easy name, ie - "Wedding Crashers", and not "Wedding crashers uncut unrated wide screen"

    Tip: Don't forget that the program gives you the opportunity to purchase the product you just scanned, in case you don't own it already!

    Even though Torrent files are sometimes associated with piracy, there are many commercial uses for distributing media. I do not condone the use of piracy.
