    A film about betrayal, hurt, anger and despair, Iruvar spans India's first five decades as the world's largest democracy. Prakashraj, a poet and rising politician meets Mohanlal, a budding actor, and recognising in each other a common spirit, the two young men form a friendship. With their lofty ideas and dreams, the two rise to the top together. When Mohanlal decides to become directly involved in politics, however, Prakashraj believes the actor has overstepped his bounds and a wedge is driven between them. Once the best of friends and the strongest of allies, they now find themselves on opposite sides. Rest of the movie picturises their stint in politics as opponents.
