Description: There's a whole lotta hollerin' goin' on every June in Spivey's Corner, North Carolina. That's when this little crossroads is home to the National Hollerin' Contest, where contestants try to impress the judges with both their vocal 'stylings' and their knowledge of the different types of 'hollers'. People here consider hollerin' to be a folk art, a tribute to an era when rural residents had to communicate over long distances with nothing but their voices. This video was shot at the 41st Annual Hollerin' Contest on June 20, 2009.
