Description: The presence of Israeli settlements in Palestinian areas is one of the most contentious issues of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The settlements are regarded as illegal under international law, but are still accepted by the Israeli government. There are also a number of outposts, which even the Israeli government regards as illegal. There are over a hundred of these illegal settlements. But while the Israeli government says it will remove them, efforts by the Israeli army to remove settlers in the northern West Bank are proving ineffectual.
