Shankar Mahadevan: "We are very proud of the fact that we got an opportunity to compose this song and I really feel blessed as a musician whenever I get any opportunity to represent India. This song is very special since the language it is sung in is very simple with the words 'De Ghuma Ke' , Cricket in this country is something that is played in every nook and corner. Even a young kid who isn't in the best economical condition will play the game with a makeshift bat. It's a religion in our country. We will say this phrase, 'De Ghuma Ke' not only for someone like Sachin Tendulkar but also for a kid playing in the street. There is also a chant kind of quality in this song.
When we first got this song we had to decide on what not to do in the song; normally it would be an inspirational song, we didn't want to make a song that sounded like a person is going to war, and we didn't want to do that. Secondly we emphasised on the words, we wanted to make a song where all people from all countries can sing this song. We also kept the groove down, what happens is that a lot of times the rhythm is very Punjabi like but a grinding rhythm is not there. It's not a fast song just like 'we will rock you.'
