Description: Professor Mehdi Hasan sheds some light on the development of Pakistan movement. Our textbooks teach us that Dr Muhammad Iqbal presented his dream of a separate, independent homeland for the Muslims of India in his famous Allahabad Address and this was realized in the form of Pakistan. However, in his letter to Prof Edward John Thompson of Oxford University Dr Iqbal wrote: "Pakistan is not my scheme. The one that I suggested in my address is the creation of a Muslim Province i.e; a province having an overwhelming population of Muslims in the North-West of India. This new province will be, according to my scheme, a part of the proposed Indian Federation."
