Description: Left alone with his prisoner, Valjean unties a startled Javert, who warns him that this does not mean their pursuit is over. The inspector assumes that Valjean hates him and wishes to make a deal for his freedom, but the convict disagrees, Javert has done his duty, and he has no reason to hate him. Furthermore, should they both escape, Valjean gives Javert the address to his house, and the policeman slips away into the night.
