  • Description: About the Pie Girl:

The Pie Girl is Amanda Reaume, the Executive Director of The Antigone Foundation. This is the video featuring her first and second pie in the face!

About the Challenge and the Pies:

Every year, I vow to personally sell 100 of The Antigone Foundation's Dreams for Women calendars. This year, for every ten calendars that I sell, I will get a pie thrown in my face and videotape it for all you to see. Why would I do such a thing? Well, other than the fact that I like pie (which is always delicious), I also understand that in the modern world of fundraising, people like to see results from their volunteer contributions.

And while the results that I have in mind are hundreds of young women getting leadership training, we all know that the more effective motivator is the potential of seeing someone you like and respect (right people?) doing something ridiculous and embarrassing.

And so, I combed through fundraising ideas and thought about doing things like shaving my head (I am sure that would work out wonderfully, but then I would just confirm feminist stereotypes...), shaving my eyebrows (that would just look weird), and settled finally on the comedic gold of getting pied in the face.

As you will see in a later Challenge update, pieing people in the face has a long history from the three Stooges to Laurel and Hardy. And then of course there is Amanda Reaume.

    The Calendar

Launched in 2008 and organized by the Antigone Foundation, this is our Third Annual Dreams for Women Calendar. This year, we asked women from Canada and the World to contribute to mark the historic occasion of Women's Worlds 2011 taking place in Ottawa-Gatineau. July 3-7, 2011. This important interdisciplinary gathering, which happens every three years in different countries around the world, focuses on research pertaining to women's issues and welcomes researchers and activists.

The 2011 Dreams for Women calendar features original postcard art created by women from across Canada and around the world who are part of the Women`s Worlds movement!

    About Dreams for Women:

The Dreams for Women postcard art project has attracted worldwide attention and interest, garnering media attention and submissions from as far away as Japan, Germany, Brazil, France and Los Angeles. The Dreams for Women art project asks women and men of all ages to tell us what their dreams are for women by making postcards.

    About The Antigone Foundation:

The Antigone Foundation is an organization that seeks to encourage young women aged 10-35 to become politically and civically engaged. We are interested in inspiring young women to get involved in leadership, politics, activism and feminism.

    About Women`s Worlds 2011:
Women's Worlds 2011 will take place in Ottawa-Gattineau July 3-7, 2011. The theme of Women's Worlds 2011 is "Inclusions, exclusions, and seclusions: Living in a globalized world." The congress is expected to draw around 2000 participants from around the world.

WW 2011 will be a unique global event that will enhance women's leadership skills and organizational capacity, support the exchange of knowledge and ideas, and foster research and action networks on women's issues. WW 2011 is a chance to move beyond discussion -- to connect and reconnect around common strategies and political agendas so that women's equality and human rights may truly advance.

The first Women's Worlds congress was held at Haifa University in December of 1981. Since then, WW has taken place every three years in a different part of the world. WW 2011 marks the 30th anniversary of the congress.
